Vision for our profession: the SoR | CoR ’s strategic framework 2024-27
As we enter 2025, the Society and College of Radiographers’ new strategy outlines how the organisations will continue to champion the0 profession, support members and drive innovation across radiography

For more than a century, the society, together with its charitable subsidiary, the College of Radiographers (established in 1976), has tirelessly championed the radiography profession – advocating for the 33,000-strong membership and the patients who rely on your expertise every day.
With the advancements in technology, changes in policy and the ever-evolving challenges facing the NHS, it is vital that the society remains innovative, forward thinking and prepared for the future to support its members and the public.
The Vision for Our Profession: A Strategic Framework for Radiography 2024–27 ensures that the SoR and CoR remain at the forefront of these changes. This refreshed framework outlines the priorities, actions and aspirations that will guide the SoR and CoR over the next three years, ensuring radiographers remain equipped to thrive in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key areas of focus
The strategic framework centres on four core pillars:
- Empowering members: enhancing support, representation and opportunities for every radiography professional.
- Nurturing talent: inspiring growth within the workforce and shaping rewarding career paths.
- Advocating for exceptional care: elevating patient outcomes by championing innovation and excellence.
- Sustaining the profession: shaping policies and fostering collaboration to secure a bright future for radiography.
For SoR members, the framework provides clear insights into how these goals will translate into tangible benefits for you – your career, your practice and your patients.

From our leadership
Tom Welton, president of the SoR and CoR, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this strategy: “For more than 100 years, we at the Society of Radiographers have been at the forefront of advocating for radiography professionals who play a vital role in patient care. Founded in 1920, the SoR is one of the oldest and most respected radiography organisations in the world. As the UK’s trade union and professional body for the diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy workforce, we shape policy and standards, pioneer innovative practices and ensure safe and fair workplaces.
“The College of Radiographers, a registered charity, complements our mission by advancing education, research and innovation in imaging and radiotherapy. Together, the SoR and CoR shape the healthcare agenda, set globally recognised standards and ensure that the patient voice is embedded at the heart of our work.
“Our goal is to cultivate workplaces where everyone feels safe, valued, heard and respected. We believe that diversity in background and thought is not only respected but is seen as our strength.
“Together, we champion the benefits of these principles, fostering a culture where all employees and members feel empowered to share their lived experiences, thereby making a significant difference to our employees, members and the radiography profession.”
“This framework is not only a vision for the future but a call to action for every member of the radiography workforce. By working together, we can ensure that our profession continues to lead, innovate and deliver outstanding care at the heart of a healthier nation.”

Every member of the society plays a role in advancing the profession by:
