Part of the Student Series
The Neurodivergent Student on Placement
Virtual event
Monday 24 July, 19:00-20:00
We recognise that everyone processes information, thinks and behaves in different ways, and we want to raise awareness across neurodiverse communities to enable us all to work more effectively as a team.
In this session, our panel of neurodiverse therapeutic and diagnostic radiography students will share their positive and negative experiences of being on placement. Attendees will gain an understanding of the needs and perspectives of neurodivergent peers, helping to promote inclusivity and improve wellbeing for all.
As ever, there will be ample time for questions and we’ll signpost further resources as part of the session.
Webinar Series
Radiation Protection Webinar Series
The three basic principles of radiation protection are justification, optimisation, and dose limitation. Join us for this series of webinars where we’ll highlight each of these principles in turn, starting with optimisation.
Diagnostic Reference Levels and Dose Reference Levels: what are they and how should I use them?
Virtual event
Wednesday 15 November, 19:00-20:00
Learn how National and Local Diagnostic and Dose Reference Levels (DRLs) are developed, and how using DRLs effectively will ensure you are working safely and proactively.
Optimisation, the Art of Radiography
Virtual event
Wednesday 6 December, 19:00-20:00
Building on the use of DRLs, we will begin exploring the opportunities to optimise exposures both at a protocol and individual patient level. We’ll consider the requirements of IR(ME)R and what that means for everyday practice, including working with medical physics colleagues and those reporting our images.
Further webinars in this series will follow in 2024.
The MRI Safety Update and Innovations Day
Hybrid event
Saturday 16 December
The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
Another excellent line-up of presenters and topics has been brought together by MRI Safety Matters for this year’s MRI Safety Update and Innovations Day in Edinburgh. This “live” conference (online optional) is aimed at MR radiographers, radiologists, physicists, clinical scientists, MRI departmental managers, industry experts and associated MRI staff. The learning outcomes are endorsed by the CPD scheme of the College of Radiographers.
The keynote speaker will be Mr Tobias Gilk, an architect and MRI safety advocate, who speaks internationally on issues of site planning and MRI safety.
Professor Martin Graves, the co-author of several books including the award-winning MRI: from Picture to Proton, is returning and will be presenting on Parallel Imaging and Compressed Sensing.
Dr Frank Shellock, creator of the internationally popular website www.mrisafety.com and Director of MRI Safety at the University of Southern California, will also be presenting again but virtually this year.
MR Linac Operational Superintendent, Trina Herbert, will describe implementing MRI safety in radiotherapy.
UK guidance for the provision of MRI for Cauda Equina Syndrome will be covered by the BAMRR representative, Rachel Watt, and MR physicist, Dr Jonathan Ashmore, will discuss UK guidance on scanning implants. Research radiographers Philippa Bridgen and Dr Karyn Chappell will discuss the complexities of scanning at 7 T and a new scanning technique, respectively.
Harmonising MRI incident reporting will be discussed by the host, Barbara Nugent, and contrast agents will be discussed by a leading expert in the field.
A Question and Answer panel with all of the speakers will close the session, before a social reception provided courtesy of MRI Safety Matters. All in-person delegates will receive a complimentary copy of the ‘MRI Operator Notebook’, an innovation provided exclusively to this MRI Safety Matters event.
With more content yet to be announced, this conference is shaping up to be exceptional and one not to be missed. It is eagerly anticipated by previous attendees, so we highly recommend registering soon. The prices remain the same as last year and group discounts are available.

This includes a full day of lectures, hot buffet lunch, all refreshments, a vendors’ exhibition, a complimentary copy of the MRI Operator Notebook, and an invitation to the social reception.
Virtual or on-demand: The price if funded and attending virtually or on-demand, is £125 plus VAT; if self-funding, it’s £100 plus VAT. Virtual delegates will be given a discounted rate if they wish to purchase the MRI Operator Notebook. All delegates automatically receive on-demand access when the recordings become available.
