CPD endorsed webinars and network meetings
The upcoming webinars from our Down’s syndrome: How can we improve the experience for parents? three-part series will continue to focus on how we can enhance care, communication and support for families.
Part Two: Non-judgemental communication relating to Down’s syndrome
Wednesday 8 October | 1-2pm
Join us for an insightful session with Lucienne Cooper, training manager at Down Syndrome UK, exploring the lived experience of Down’s syndrome, past and present. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Understand how life with Down’s syndrome has evolved and what it means in the 21st century.
- Hear new research into how women are told about a Down’s syndrome diagnosis, their screening experiences and maternal wellbeing, alongside an antenatal pathway.
- Recognise best and poor practices in communicating a Down’s syndrome diagnosis, including the impact of language.
- Apply insights from lived experiences and new antenatal pathways to improve support for families.
- At the end of the session watch a moving video of parents reflecting on receiving the news of their baby’s diagnosis and the support that helped them most.
Part Three: A mum’s reflection on having a child with Down’s syndrome
Monday 20 October | 12-1pm
Join us for a powerful and insightful session with Professor Naomi Shiner, faculty director of simulation at Keele University, who explores the healthcare journey through the lens of a mother advocating for her child with Down’s syndrome. This session offers radiographers a unique opportunity to:
- Gain a deeper appreciation of the modern-day challenges faced by families navigating NHS services.
- Reflect on real experiences – both positive and negative – shared by a parent who has lived through the system.
- Receive practical guidance on how to build stronger, more empathetic relationships with patients with Down’s syndrome and their families.
This session is designed to inspire meaningful change in practice, enhance patient-centred care and empower radiographers to make a lasting impact in their interactions with neurodiverse patients.
