The 2016 update of NICE Clinical guideline (CG95)1 concerning recent-onset chest pain of suspected cardiac origin: assessment and diagnosis, recommended that patients with stable chest pain should be offered a CTCA. Unfortunately, as identified by the BSCI in their paper: The challenge of national CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) provision2 in response to NICE CG95 update 2016, it was estimated that an additional 200,000 patients may require CTCA across the UK under the new guidelines, which represented a 700% increase in current cardiovascular CT delivery.
In this lecture, recorded during Bayer’s Cardiac Imaging Masterclass in May 2025, Daniel Furness, Lead Radiographer at Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrookes) explores and discusses the merits of a Radiographer-led CTCA service in helping to meet the challenges and overcome the increased pressures presented by the updated guidelines.
