Taking place on Saturday 16 May, the march will begin at 11am at Wind Street and last for one hour. The parade will move through the city centre, along Oxford Street and St Helen’s Road to the Guildhall. The event’s main pride festival will run from midday to 7pm at the Guildhall and Brangwyn Hall.

Those walking with the Equalise group do not need to purchase tickets or make a donation – just be ready to bring your positive energy to the march!

Please note that the journey to Swansea Guildhall will take around three hours and 32 minutes from London Paddington Station. Attendees are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation.

This is not the first time the SoR has been represented at a Pride march. The Equalise group also joined in the fun at London Pride last year, joining 35,000 people marching through the streets of central London.

Obituary: Phillip Rutherford

Phillip, who previously worked at NHS Borders in Scotland, passed away earlier this year

Phillip Rutherford, a radiographer who had worked at NHS Borders in Scotland, sadly passed away earlier this year. Phillip’s colleagues at NHS Borders wrote the following recounting Phillip’s career and far-reaching influence.

“Phil started working in NHS Borders as a newly qualified radiographer in 1988 and gradually rose through the ranks to be plain film lead and reporting radiographer. His teaching sessions were always amusing and engaging, as well as being well informed and informative.

“He worked with the University of Dundee and Queen Margaret University as a guest lecturer in both postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

“His radiographic skills were wide ranging and, in addition to plain film, Phill worked in the CT department. His role development began with screening procedures, where he initially undertook barium enema examinations before widening his scope of practice. His fine motor skills, developed while painting small models for wargaming, translated well into minor interventional procedures, and he performed sialography and cystograms in addition to barium meals and swallows.

“As his health declined, Phil took early retirement in 2017. Sadly, he died in January of this year. Those of us who worked with him from the early days until his retirement have many memories of fun, laughter, great camaraderie and infectious passion for radiography. His trips to Borders high schools have inspired many local youngsters to become radiographers.”

SoR members celebrate ‘determination, positivity and community’ at Together Alliance march

Members of the SoR are celebrating the success of the Together Alliance event, which saw allied health professions unions and professional organisations march across London.

The event, which took place on Saturday 28 March, sought to tackle the rise in discrimination such as racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia across the country, with attendees marching from Park Lane to Piccadilly and towards Green Park Tube Station before turning on to Regent Street and then on to Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall.

In protest against the worrying rise in aggressive behaviours towards many of the most vulnerable in society, the march aimed to raise awareness of how hostile environments impact people across their communities and in their workplaces, and make society feel less safe for everyone.

Katie Thompson, president of the SoR, said: “Flags, witty placards, vocal chants, brass and samba melodies filled the air at the Together Alliance march in London. The air was filled with determination, positivity and a huge sense of community. I was filled with a sense of belonging and enormous pride that so many had travelled to show their strength of feeling against racism, bigotry, misogyny and exclusion.”
